Concentration: Information Technology  - Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey

Overview:
The objective of the
Master of Business & Science with a concentration in Information Technology is to educate students about the essential skills for managing technical development and commercial applications in the computer/information technology industry. The MBS Information Technology combines the science courses from a tradition MS with the business curriculum from an MBA.  Students will learn the principles and application of information technology, computer science, management and planning, team work, communication skills, and fundamentals of making proper financial decisions.

There are many opportunities for employment in the following industries: IT, computer science, electronics, financial and banking.

Program requirements:
The Information Technology (IT) concentration involves 8 courses (24 credits) from the IT list below and 6 courses (19 credits) in the business curriculum (which is specified in the business curriculum form).  Of the 19 credits in the business curriculum, there are 6 credits of  electives. Electives in the business curriculum that are recommended for this track include: Project Management, Strategic Management of Innovation and Technology, Internet Based Entrepreneurship, Managing Technological Professionals, Team building and Group Process (see also
here  for other recommended business electives).

The 8 IT courses are divided into 5 core courses, and 3 electives.

The remaining 3 courses are to be taken from the Elective pool.

Admission requirements:
Students must demonstrate prior experience in computer science, computer engineering or information technology as a major (undergraduate) or as a working professional. Students must have had the equivalent of a programming course and data structures undergraduate course and have enough background to enter these graduate courses.   Without this background, students are required to take the following prerequisite courses: 17:610:550 Introduction to Information Technology, or the equivalent as a first step.
