Geospatial Information Systems & Technology
The MBS track in GIS provides an in-depth, interdisciplinary examination on the emerging discipline of GIS&T, addressing such issues as the theoretical basis of the study of geospatial information, its diverse applications in science, government and commerce, and the societal/environmental implications of GIS technology. As part of the coursework, students will be exposed and be provided the opportunity to become technically proficient in a variety of geospatial technologies through hands-on instruction. The focus is on hands-on application of GIS. In addition, students gain exposure to business courses and business case development through the MBS business curriculum.
Many industries today rely on geographic information, this includes marketing, mobile app developing, environmental and government agencies.
A science or related major is preferable. Calculus and Statistics is advisable, although students can take these courses while in the program The General GRE is required for admission.
For the Master of Business & Science (MBS) degree, students take 8 courses (24 credits) in the sciences and 19 credits in business. The business requirements include courses in finance & accounting, marketing, communication & leadership, capstone, ethics and electives. The business curriculum is listed here. The GIS Track consists of 3 required GIS courses, 1 application course, and 4 electives. Additional electives may be added to complement the core.
