Receive an introduction and hands-on experience in data visualization, visual analytics, and visual data storytelling. Study design principles for creating meaningful displays of quantitative and qualitative data to facilitate managerial decision-making in the field of business analytics. Leverage the power of data visualization to communicate business-relevant implications of analyses. Modules are organized around concepts, tools, and applications, and cover the visual analytics process from beginning to end, from collecting, preparing, and analyzing data to creating data visualizations, dashboards, and stories that share critical business insights. Leverage the analytical capabilities of Tableau, the industry's leading visualization tool, and learn how to use this technology competently.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Articulate increasing importance of visual analytics in today's data-prevalent markets.
  • Apply data visualization/visual analytics best practices.
  • Utilize Tableau Desktop to answer basic visual analytics questions, and present meaningful insights via data visualizations and dashboards.
  • Create and understand different visualizations possible in Tableau.
