Course Description:

This course provides an end-to-end overview of the visual analytics process. Students learn the fundamental concepts of business intelligence as well as how to employ visualization techniques to simplify and communicate data in a way that is easy to understand. Students will learn to effectively collect, streamline, structure, and present data using visualization programs including Tableau, and will ultimately apply their knowledge by creating their own visualizations.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Discuss increasing importance of analytics and visualization in today's data-prevalent markets.
  • Articulate best practices in data visualization
  • Explain data visualization principles and guidelines for effective analysis and presentation.
  • Use different Tableau Desktop Interface components.
  • Practice different ways of connecting and integrating data in Tableau Desktop.
  • Create and understand different visualizations possible in Tableau.
  • Create compelling and interactive dashboards and stories from multiple worksheets.
  • Publish dashboards to Tableau public
  • Verbally communicate persuasive, data-driven business insights supported by Tableau visualizations
