Guidance for the Journey

The MBS Alumni-Student Mentoring Program was created to offer graduate students in the MBS program valuable guidance and support throughout their academic journey. This program provides access to the experiences and wisdom of former MBS students.

Benefits of Being a Student Mentee

Are you interested in learning from outstanding MBS alumni who are succeeding in their respective fields? As a student mentee, you can take advantage of their knowledge, network, and expertise. Here are some advantages you can expect:

  • Receive practical guidance and advice
  • Feel more confident in making decisions
  • Set goals and establish a clear path
  • Gain valuable insights into your future career
  • Expand your professional network through mentor introductions

Responsibilities of the Student Mentee:

Commitment

Students who submit the Interest Form are required to have a coaching session with Abbe Rosenthal, MA, PCC, to discuss expectations and the process.

When participating in the alumni-mentor matching process, keep in mind that it may take several weeks. Upon being paired with a mentor, commit to meeting them at least once a month and honor any other commitments made during the initial meeting.

Communication

Guidelines for communicating with your mentor:

  • Use email or other agreed mode of communication
  • Give 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule a meeting
  • Failure to attend without prior notice may lead to warning and termination.

Respect

Guidelines for a successful mentorship include respecting the mentor's time, not requesting a job, respecting confidentiality, and being open to constructive criticism. Avoid overloading your mentor's inbox, and do not ask them to edit your resume or LinkedIn profile without mutual agreement.
