MBS Capstone Fall 2025 Pitches Showcase Student Innovation

On December 11th and 12th, over 100 students in our course, “Capstone,” presented their business ideas to a panel of judges. This year, presentations were held at the SERC building and brought together students, faculty, and judges for a series of immersive, real-world business presentations. Presentations, facilitated by lead instructor Tom Bryant, were conducted in a hybrid format, with some teams presenting entirely in-person, online, or a combination of both.

Master of Business and Science (MBS) students conclude their MBS journey in our course “Capstone.” In this course, they work in teams to identify an emerging piece of intellectual property (IP) that has not yet been widely commercialized. Each team selected an IP that they believe the world needs, then worked to answer a question: How do you turn promising science into a viable business?

In “Capstone,” Bryant is supported by a team of more than a dozen adjunct faculty. This course brings together all that students have learned during their MBS education, preparing students for careers in managing science-based innovation. Teams present to a panel of “judges”—individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds who all have unique expertise in scientific innovation—who ask questions and provide feedback. Each team also submits a detailed business plan at the end of the semester.

This semester, teams were allowed to bring a one-page handout to in-person presentations. Some teams took their business ideas out to the public for real-world feedback, while others brought in props to support their presentations.

The class also includes a retreat, where students gather on campus for a weekend filled with team-building, workshops, and field trips.

Congratulations to all MBS Capstone students!
