MBS Industrial Advisory Board Student Mixer: Connecting Students with Industry Leaders

The Master of Business and Science (MBS) degree program hosted a mixer for our students, alumni, faculty, and Industrial Advisory Board members. Held at the Zimmerli Art Museum, one of the largest and most distinguished university-based museums in the country, it was an evening of insightful conversations, meaningful connections, and leadership development.

Kathleen Cashman-Walter, MBS Executive Coach and instructor of our Communication and Leadership course, kicked off the night by introducing the Industrial Advisory Board and its significant role.

The MBS IAB serves as a bridge between industry and academia, offering students exposure to real-world insights, mentorship, and career guidance. The MBS IAB includes nearly 30 STEM-focused business leaders from diverse industries, including pharmaceuticals, research and development, product development, media, consumer goods, and energy. Many members are MBS alumni.

Cashman-Walter framed the evening around leadership as an intentional habit, quoting legendary American college football coach and television analyst Lou Holtz and his three rules: “Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care.”

The goal of the mixer was to encourage students to step outside their comfort zones and build new connections. MBS students, alumni, faculty, and IAB members mingled over dinner, dessert, and drinks.

MBS faculty members and IAB members introduced themselves and shared advice. Speakers, including Professional Science Master’s Program Executive Director Dr. Deborah Silver, encouraged students to remain curious, adaptable, and open to continuous learning.

The evening also reflected the strong community within MBS. Students shared personal wins and milestones.
