Examine the world of project management as a discipline. Study real-world successes, opportunities, struggles, and challenges. Elevate the analytical skills appropriate for strategically managing projects, programs, and portfolios. Establish leadership development and tools to help project managers round out necessary skills for success on a global scale. Learn the strategic, business, financial, political, operational, and conceptual issues faced by modern project managers, program management offices (PMOs), and enterprises. Develop, execute, and control a complex project capable of supporting business objectives linked to measures of success for high-impact teams, projects, and portfolios.

Course Objectives

Project Management Fundamentals

  • The discipline and profession of project management (w/ PMP framework)
  • To address the role of the project manager (The Art and Science)
  • How to build and manage a successful project team and organization
  • To assess approaches of structuring organizations (i.e. PMO)
  • To develop a strategic business perspective of the management of projects
  • Project Management Approaches - SDLC & Agile Development Methodology
  • Project Process Groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring\Controlling and Closing) - Concepts from the Project Management Professional (PMP)

Strategic Management

  • Identify and analyze project risks and develop contingency plans for those risks
  • The Human Side" of project management - the People!
  • Analyze the impact of variability in project tasks and plans
  • Apply quantitative measures of project progress and tracking
  • Business Process Improvement - Waste, optimization and business value
  • Application of Lean Six Sigma Concepts (DMAIC) & Lean Thinking
  • Future trends, challenges and opportunities in project management

Analytics and Tools

  • Introduce innovative frameworks, concepts and tools available for strategically managing projects in organizations
  • Build project selection models - Case Development (i.e. ROI, NPV & Pay Back)
  • Project Value Management - understanding the limitations of traditional approaches to project management
  • Develop a project strategy to maximize the project's value for key stakeholders and shareholders. Select the appropriate set of tools to manage projects strategically during their planning and execution
