BS/MBS ("4+1")

Students must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Apply in the second semester of their junior year
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 upon submission of the application
  • Short essay (minimum 500 words) describing how the MBS degree will help you achieve your career goals
  • Complete 90 credits by the end of their sixth semester
  • Submit an official copy of their transcripts
  • Submit one (1) letter of recommendation from a professor in their major
  • Submit a current resume
  • Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview.

How do I apply?

  1. Visit http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/apply/apply-now
  2. Create a CommunityID
  3. Once you’ve logged into the application portal, you will see "Start an Application Today"-- click the “Apply Now” button
  4. In the first section, "Application Selection", for "Level of Application" select "Graduate"
  5. After you complete your background information, you will then go to the portion of your application called “Program of Study”
  6. For "Applicant Type": Choose “Degree”
  7. For “Degree Type”: Choose “5 Year Master’s (e.g. BA/MA, BS/MS, EdM Teacher Ed)"
  8. For “Area of Study”: Choose “Business and Science”
  9. For “Location/Instructional Method”, choose one of the following:
    1. “Camden”
    2. “New Brunswick”
    3. “Newark”
  10. Select your desired program (Computer and Information Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering) and concentration and continue with the application

Application Requirements

Request one letter of recommendation in the application portal from a professor in your major

  • Transcripts must be sealed and sent to the graduate admissions office at the time of applying.
  • Applicants are encouraged to reach out to their universities to find out if they can submit electronic official transcripts as opposed to regular mail for a quicker turnaround. Universities can send official electronic transcripts to the Rutgers Graduate & Professional Admissions office: e-transcripts@gradadm.rutgers.edu

  • Upload your personal statement in the application portal.
  • Your personal statement should detail your reasons for pursuing the Master of Business and Science degree from Rutgers University; your short-term and long-term career plans; and how your background, experience, interests, and/or values, when combined with an MBS degree, will enable you to pursue these goals successfully.
  • Please include a mention of the semester in which you anticipate finishing your undergraduate degree (i.e. the semester of graduation with a Bachelor's degree).
