Examine the process of research and development of innovative food products. Identify the importance of food product development and the challenges involved in the development of a new food product. Experience the creation of new food products in a real-world research and development facility. Gain a basic understanding of the business innovation strategies, practices, and new product development process in the commercial food industry. Take part in online assignments, projects, and guest web meetings with food industry professionals from leading food companies. Learn how to successfully initiate, organize, and carry out a product development process to better prepare for real-world challenges.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course:

  • Have a working knowledge of the Food Industry including Retail Food and Food service.
  • Understand supermarket operations including merchandising, pricing, promotional activity, and new product requirements.
  • Understand the interaction of the many disciplines within the corporation in the new product process.
