Learn about the legal and regulatory systems and principles affecting the production, labeling, and distribution of foods and dietary supplements. Examine key issues, with an emphasis on the complex and evolving frameworks affecting food and dietary supplements. Study the roles played by regulators, legal systems, and lawyers in enforcement, litigation, and crisis management.

By the end of this course, have an understanding of:

  • How the laws and regulations are designed to protect consumers and regulate businesses, focusing on the legal concepts driving enforcement
  • The interplay among different public and private legal and regulatory systems that each have a role in protecting consumers from unsafe or deceptive products or practices
  • The role that attorneys and regulatory managers play in helping businesses navigate law and regulation, including the tools they use to promote responsible behavior
  • The legal and regulatory landscapes of foods, dietary supplements and over-the-counter drugs and a practical approach to navigating compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
