Receive a basic overview of the chemistry involved in food and personal care products, including the chemistry of macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates), micronutrients (vitamins, minerals), soap, lotions, and creams. Learn how to connect chemistry with the function, quality, and stability of food and personal care products, as well as those associated with health benefits and regulatory issues. Study product development, quality control, regulation, and marketing of food and personal care products.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Analyze basic chemistry of food and food systems
  • Analyze basic chemistry of personal care products
  • Apply the chemistry for the applications such as product development, complying with government regulations, better quality control, better product marketing and promotions
