1. What has been your biggest professional achievement?

Being the first in my family to obtain a master's degree as a first-generation Chinese American raised by immigrant parents.

2. Why did you choose the MBS degree?

I was committed to Rutgers through my undergraduate studies in the Rutgers Business School which was a great transition into the master's program of business and science. The MBS degree specifically grabbed my attention with its structure in combining business and technology courses that overall turned out to be a competitive advantage when it came time for job interviews.

3. What did you find to be the most valuable aspects of this program?

The courses and externship gave us independent and team collaborative opportunities in semester-long projects that can be transcribed into our resumes as experience. Working alongside the most prominent professors, classmates, mentors and even alumni was a key highlight to exposure and networking in a mass pool of support and work opportunities. Additionally, the methods/software/tools introduced within the science courses are industry-current and up to date with today's companies that students in the program are allowed to explore further through Rutgers' resources.

4. What did you enjoy the most about this program?

The support from everyone. Advisors and professors who understand the need for schedule flexibility; project mentors/clients who are willing to provide additional advice and opportunities for students to gain knowledge and experience in their fields; classmates who ultimately are reaching for the same goals and are willing to share information and resources to each other.

5. Do you have any advice for current students?

Organize your weekly class schedule so you make time for each (team meetings, client meetings, class/lectures, independent assignments). Coordinate 1-2 coffee chats each week with alumni, LinkedIn network, professionals in your field. Keep 1-3 classmates from each course close to you so that you can keep each other accountable for completing coursework.

6. Is there anything else that you would like to share?

Job searching is a very tricky process. Getting through the requirements to obtain your degree won't always give you your dream job directly. Sometimes, you'll have to do more than just taking classes by doing projects outside of the curriculum to show employers your drive or connecting with people even for a few minutes just so they can see your talent and passion to grow outside of being a student.
