America at 250: A 3 Part Lecture Series | Part 1: The Constitution as a Business and Science Document

This session sets the stage for understanding the U.S. Constitution as both a political framework and an economic reform project. We’ll explore how the commercial failures of the Articles of Confederation—including state tariffs, unstable currency, and dishonored contracts—helped drive the Constitutional Convention of 1787 and shaped provisions designed to create a unified national market. The session will also preview key themes of the course, including commerce, property, corporate rights, regulation, and equality, while introducing the separation of powers, the role of the U.S. courts, and the foundation for the Lecture 2 Court presentation.
