Congratulations to all Master of Business and Science (MBS) students who took part in our Capstone course this semester!
On December 11th, 12th, and 13th, teams of students presented their Capstone projects. MBS students finish their degree by completing these projects, where they choose a science-derived intellectual property (IP) and develop a business plan to take this IP to market. After creating a pitch deck, students present to a team of judges serving as "angel investors.”
This semester, students and judges joined course lead instructor Dr. Tom Bryant over Zoom or in person. Dr. Bryant is supported by a team of 12 faculty members for this class.
Each team gave a short presentation, addressing the need behind their company, providing a product overview, identifying their target market, detailing their overall timeline, showing a breakdown of costs and projected revenue— and ending with a request for investment.
Teams created products in a variety of areas, including wellness, drone deliveries, sunscreen, artificial intelligence, and more.
Each team member brought their own perspective and experience, taking on different roles in the areas of marketing, finance, technology, etc.
Judges came from a wide variety of backgrounds such as entrepreneurship, investment, and startups—including Dr. Raj Kohli, who recently retired as Executive Vice President of Global Research and Development (R&D) from Colgate-Palmolive and a past guest speaker for our MBS Cafe series. Judges asked incisive questions and gave valuable advice.

This semester, Dr. Bryant organized a session for service. He invited students to join him in cleaning up Arbor Trail at the historic Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center.
The MBS degree program is designed for both full-time and part-time students. Students pursuing this degree take a combination of courses in business and science—and many of our courses contain elements of both. Our Capstone course provides students the opportunity to use all they have learned while completing the MBS degree to manage science-intensive opportunities.
Our Capstone also includes an optional retreat, where students are invited to join us on campus for workshops, team meetings, field trips, and fun.
Well done, Capstone students! You've reached an incredible milestone. Happy holidays!
