The Fusion of Scientific Literacy and Resonant Understanding: How Learning to Listen Like a Scientist Sharpened My Communication in the MBS Externship Exchange

In our professional lives, we’ll often act in a great number of situations—meetings, client discussions, team projects—that seem routine. Yet through the teachings of the Rutgers Master of Business and Science (MBS) Externship Exchange program, I learned that familiarity can be deceptive. What may feel like a call to act based on one’s previous experiences or understanding of similar situations is actually an opportunity to test new strategies and see old problems through sharper lenses.

Snapshots of the Semester: MBS Externs Present Lightning Talks

At the Master of Business and Science (MBS) degree program, we believe the best way to learn is through hands-on learning, and nowhere is that more evident than in our Externship Exchange Program. Our externship program offers students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in practical settings. On April 22nd and 29th, 2025, externs took the stage to present their semester-long projects at the Spring 2025 Externship Lightning Talks.

Where Learning meets Innovation: MBS Capstone Retreat Spring 2025

Innovation is the heart of scientific progress, but it doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Innovation requires research, experimentation, and ecosystems that fuel creativity. Students pursuing the Master of Business and Science (MBS) degree enroll in the course Science and Technology Management Capstone, where they work in teams to pick a science-based intellectual property and develop a plan to take it to market.

A New Dimension of Learning: MBS Capstone Retreat Fall 2024

Imagine a weekend where science meets innovation—welcome to the Professional Science Master’s (PSM) program’s Capstone retreat!

Students in our Capstone course were welcomed to join us at the Rutgers Inn and Conference Center for a weekend of workshops, team building, field trips, and fun.

We invited both in-person and online students to take part. One student traveled from upstate New York to attend!
